The British Mr. Farah announced Tuesday that 2023 will likely be its final season. “I will not compete in the Olympic Games and I think 2023 will be my last year,” the athlete declared.
The four-time Olympic champion, who turns 40 in March, could end his career at the London Marathon on April 23.
“I’m not young anymore. I wish I could finish at home,” said the four-time Olympic champion in statements released by the organization of the race. But Farah has not ruled out attending the World Championships in Budapest, from August 19 to 27, if he is selected. “If they choose me, I will never say no,” he stressed.
Mo Farah completed the 5,000 and 10,000 meter double twice at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games. He is also a six-time world champion at those distances, but has never won the London Marathon. In three participations, his best result was third place in 2018.
“I’m going to prepare, I’m going to Ethiopia and I’m going to train well to see what I can do in April,” said Farah, who had to withdraw last year due to a hip injury.
