This February 1, FIFA presented its new editions of FIFA Disciplinary Code and the FIFA Code of Ethics. The changes are aimed at protecting certain parties in proceedings before FIFA’s judicial bodies, as well as giving FIFA more means to combat illegal or unethical methods and practices. There are some changes that it presents, although there is no doubt that the great innovation is that it offers more protection for victims of discrimination, sexual abuse or harassment. From now on, the prescription of offenses in cases of sexual abuse, harassment and exploitation will be removed. In addition, victims will be considered part of the proceedings in question, that is, they will have all procedural rights such as notification of the decision and the right to appeal.
Federations and confederations are obliged to inform FIFA of sexual abuse and manipulation.
In addition, from now on, member federations and confederations are obliged to inform FIFA of any decision made in cases of sexual abuse and match-fixing. In this last aspect, it will also improve match-fixing investigations with independent integrity experts who will work with public authorities to assess possible violations and propose appropriate disciplinary measures.
Up to 18% interest on debtors’ clubs who cannot make transfers. In addition, FIFA will ensure financial justice in case of non-compliance with the decisions of FIFA itself or the Court of Arbitration for Sport with a series of following measures, highlighting the extension of the ban on making transfers imposed by FIFA Football Court when the debtor has not complied with said decision.
In addition, under certain conditions, obligation to pay interest of 18% in case of having unpaid debts. The lifting of the transfer ban imposed on indebted parties will only be lifted if they present reliable evidence to FIFA that they have complied with their financial obligations.
