Swedish Armand Duplantisworld record holder and Olympic pole vault champion, started the season this Thursday in Uppsala (Sweden) with a better jump of 6.10 meters and with a failed attempt to reach 6.22 to break his own world record.
Duplantis, indoor continental champion in 2022, in Belgrade, participated in the ‘Mondo classic’, an event where ten of the best pole vaulters in the world competed.
The Swedish athlete led the test and reached 6.10 meters. He then tried to surpass his own record in open air, which he had with 6.21 meters, but in none of the three jumps was he able to exceed the 6.22 marked on the height bar.
Second is American KC Lightfoot, who reached 5.91 meters, the same mark as Filipino Ernest John Obiena.
Other participants were the Australian Kurtis Marschall (5.82), the Norwegian Pal Haugen Lillefosse (5.82), the Belgian Ben Broeders (5.67), the Frenchman Thibaut Collet (5.67), the American Sam Kendricks (5.67), the Brazilian Thiago Braz (5.67) and German Bo Kanda Lita Baehre (5.67).
Armand Duplantis’ next competitions will be in Berlin (February 10), Liévin (France, February 15) and Clermont-Ferrand (France, February 25). After them he will decide if he will go to the European indoor track in Istanbul in March.
