The Solheim 2023 Cup joins the “Costa del Sol Zero Carbon Footprint” project

Date:

The Solheim Cup 2023who will face the women’s team from Europe and the United States from September 18 to 24 in Finca Cortesinin Casares (Málaga), joined the project “Costa del Sol Zero Carbon Footprint” where the CO2 emissions of its participants and visitors will be compensated by tree plantations in this province.

With this decision, this international tournament, “the most important in women’s golf”, aims to take “another step in its intention to be an event that respects the environment as much as possible”, said its organizers in a statement on Thursday.

The project “Costa del Sol Zero Footprint” (Costa del Sol Zero Carbon Footprint) made this enclave on the Malaga coast “the first destination in the world to calculate the carbon footprint of any tourist who arrives in the area, regardless of the type of travel, and pay for it.”

To do this, visitors to the Costa del Sol can access the website https://www.visitacostadelsol.com/planifica/informacion-turistica/huella-de-carbono, enter the details of their trip (number of person, country and city of origin, type of vehicle chosen, number of nights of stay, kilometers to be traveled and in what medium) and you will get the result of your carbon footprint in kilograms of CO2, in addition to its equivalent in number of trees planted and the option to recover from it

This compensation of CO2 emitted, as explained in the note, will be practiced in tree plantations in this Andalusian province in collaboration with another Diputación project, “Málaga Viva”, where more than 340,000 trees have already been planted and land banks are being created to reforest and recover the carbon footprint.

All tourists who offset their emissions by planting trees in the province of Malaga, through the Costa del Sol Tourism tool, will receive a personalized certificate with a QR code and a link to the forest which they contribute to revisit, as well as information on the same, in detail where your tree is planted.

This initiative consists of two phases: one of dissemination and awareness, where Tourism and Planning of the Costa del Sol assumes the cost and gives the plantation to tourists who decide to pay for its impact on the environment; and another for integration, where users can directly offset their carbon footprint in the various environmental projects developed in the province of Malaga.

“The Costa del Sol is once again a pioneer and has become a benchmark in a project where it has been working for a long time and is another example of the clear commitment that both the Malaga Provincial Council and Costa del Sol Tourism are making for the sustainability of the destination”, highlighted the president of both institutions, Francisco Salado.

“In addition, sustainability is perhaps one of the greatest indicators of quality, prestige and image of a destination. And the Costa del Sol must compete and will compete in that league, because we are convinced that the sustainable development of tourism must mark the axis of growth lines of the Costa del Sol”, he stressed.
