Justin Rose is chasing the title at Pebble Beach

Date:

The British Justin Rose was the big winner this Sunday at Pebble Beach finishing an impressive third round at 6 under par. which allows him to start the last and definitive as leader. The day won’t end in Monterey and the tournament will be decided this Monday.

The third round was dominated by the Europeans, with Swede Jonas Blixt and Englishman Callum Tarren at -8two strokes lower than a Rose stormed into the lead thanks to his five birdies and a spectacular eagle on 16.

A total of 75 players made the cut in the final round, offering a very close battle for the last victory among seven golfers. Besides the aforementioned Justin Rose, there are Americans Brendon Todd, Peter Malnati, Denny McCarthy, Beau Hossler and Keith Mitchell, along with Canadian Taylor Pendrith.

Only Pendrith among them completed the tour this SundayWith a superb eight-under-par the previous day that left him with a -12 card, his chances of winning the title are slim and depend on a debacle of top four finishers.

The Canadian can earn the honor of becoming the first player, since 2013, to make 64 strokes or fewer in the final round.

The distance between this group of players is about two or three shots on most of their tours. With a special mention for Justin Rose, who closed the day with nine holes completed, where he achieved two birdies and an eagle.

The Englishman should endorse this Monday, with eight and a half holes left to playthe first place would give him his first PGA title since he won at Torrey Pines in 2019. It would mean his eleventh victory on the circuit in his entire career.

Denny McCarthy, ranked second at -13 and playing the 16th hole at the horn, is close to breaking his own record for birdies in a round, he has nine this Sunday and is two more away from surpassing it. If he succeeds, he will put Rose in trouble defending the lead.

After learning of Saturday’s suspension of play, nine golfers left the tournament in hopes of preparing properly for the next PGA event, this week in Phoenix. Two of them must now Monday in Arizona to dispute their qualification for the final round.

The tournament will resume this Monday at eight in the morning (local time), after being paused due to a lack of light at 5:33 pm

THE PRO-AM KEEP IT AARON RODGERS

In the early hours of Sunday, the third round of the Pro-Am tournament concluded, with no cut or advanced heading into the final day. When the remaining holes were played, the couple formed by the Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, and the Canadian professional, Ben Silverman, combined their leadership and finished at -26.

They struggled to win, as the duo formed by Peter Malnati and Dan Colleran closed in on them to be just a stroke away. The former president of FedEx did not make it this time, but he already has his name on the wall of winners of previous editions.

Aaron Rodgers was very pleased with the win: “It means a lot to me, it’s something I’ve always had on my wish list. I’ve played at Tahoe for 18 years and never got higher than eighth place.”

It’s a great result considering Rodgers confessed that just last Monday he picked up a golf club. The previous occasion was on his vacation before the start of the NFL preseason.

Both Pau Gasol and Gareth Bale closed with a great performance, two of the rookie sensations. The Spaniard finished in the top nine with Mark Hubbard with a -18 card, while the Welshman, paired with Joseph Bramlett signed a -16 and finished in the top 16.
