Bad weather on Saturday at Pebble Beach prevented the third round of the tournament from being completedwith strong winds stopping the competition after noon and the organization deciding that the action will return on Sunday morning only at the end of the third and fourth day of the professionals.
Neither golfer finished their round on Saturdayin fact as many as 34 of them did not complete the first nine holes.
The great winner of the day was the American Peter Malnati, who competed on the Pebble Beach course with an impressive -6 card in 12 holes played. Six birdies to his credit took him straight into the temporary lead with a total of 12 under par.
They are closely followed on -10 by two compatriots like Joseph Bramlett and Keith Mitchell, the former with thirteen holes played, and the latter with ten.
A Kitayama who lost the lead completing the course par in the nine holes he played remains in the matchadded -9 overall, the same balance as the first day’s leader, Hank Lebioda.
Viktor Hovland, very much off the hook until Friday, joined the group of candidates for the final victory with a -2 in his round on Saturday.
The third day will be reactivated with the professional tournament on Sunday at eight in the morning, with the last and final round predicted to start at noon. The PGA announced that the cut was in the first 65 classifieds.
