Veteran Gasquet falls to teenager Fils in Montpellier

The French Arthur Phils18 years old and 163 in the world, defeated his countryman on Monday Richard Gasquet.

Fils defeated Gasquet 7-5, 7-5 in one hour and 51 minutes to sign his first major win on the main circuit after his two Challenger finals (Oeiras-2 with a win and Quimper with a loss).

As of Monday he is the second player born in 2004 to win an ATP Tour match, surpassed only by the Greek Stefanos Sacellaridis, in the United Cup and number 612 in the world.

A six-time finalist in Montpellier, Richard Gasquet has never lost in the first round in ten appearances in a tournament where he has been a six-time finalist and three-time champion.

Fils used his powerful serve and superb forehand to go up 1-3 and 2-4 in the first set and 0-2 in the second. He will face world number 24, the Spaniard, in the round of 16 Roberto Bautista Agutseeded fourth.
