Juanmi: “With VAR, cheating should cease to exist”

Date:

Juanmi Jímenez, Betic top scorer last season, scored again on Saturday against Celta after not doing so since the double against Elche on the first day of LaLiga. He was happy about it but upset about the defeat: “Happy on a personal level for the goal but sad because we didn’t get the three points here at home. Celta played well, but we had enough chances to win this”, he said to RTV Betis.

Juanmi also appreciated the sending off of Luiz Felipe in that match due to the incident with Iago Aspas and he criticized that VAR did not come into play in a game like this: “These are games that have to be reviewed, a red card should be reviewed, like all game actions. The VAR referee needs to see that Luiz Felipe wanted to take the ball to him, it didn’t hit him in the face and if anything he could have touched the stomach area. Maybe in more force than usual, but I don’t think it’s an attack. If we have these kinds of tools, we should use them to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Foolishness always exists in football but now with VAR it must be stopped If a player pretends that they attack, he is deceiving the referee, and if VAR does not come in, it does not have any meaning that it works”, said the Betic striker.

Juanmi also referred to the number of expulsions suffered by Real Betis, ten in twenty league games, something that has never been seen before: “It is something unusual. This is the team with the most expulsions in LaLiga and we are the team that has most of the fouls they do on us. We have unbalanced players up front, like Fekir who gets a lot of fouls every game and in a lot of ways and the first time he does he gets a yellow. If it continues we talk about it, we stop ourselves. We have to focus on what is important, which is football, to win again and on Saturday we have a very important game for that”.

At the Mediterranean Games stadium, Betis have never won: “It will be a difficult game, they have won two consecutive games at home and make it a contested game. The coach knows us well, he knows how we play and what our characteristics are, because they have us, but we have to come out with clear ideas from the first minute to get the three points”, said Juanmi.

With the arrival of Ayoze, he thinks the following: “He is a player who will give us a lot. will help us a lot. He is very versatile and that’s what we need, the goals that he can contribute”.
