He’s a doctor. He’s at war. And he finally wants to go home. With this story, a scammer managed to gain the trust of a 58-year-old resident of Tyrol. Her affection, however, cost the woman dear.
The 58-year-old has been in contact with the alleged doctor via a messaging platform since December. The stories about war and homesickness touched the woman’s heart. So she relented to transfer about 50,000 euros to the stranger in several installments. Although she would transfer the amounts to different accounts, the 58-year-old suspected nothing.
The alleged doctor had told the woman that he needed the money for the expensive journey home. But when the money was transferred, the stranger was suddenly no longer available. The detectives call this scam by the scammers “love scamming”. In most cases, victims never see their money again.
