Movistar, led by Colombian Iván Sosa, seeks to win the 12th edition of the Tour of Oman which starts this Saturday and ends on Wednesday in Montaña Verde, where the race will be decided.
Movistar attended the event with aspirations, with a team consisting of Matteo Jorgenson, Iván Ramiro Sosa, Carlos Verona, Imanol Erviti, Abner González, Mathias Norsgaard and Max Kanter.
This formation will allow him to compete in the sprints with the German Max Kanter and the general with Iván Ramiro Sosa, because the Tour of Oman will end after climbing about 6 km at 10 percent, a desirable ending for Colombian “beetle” .
The sprinters will have a lot to say, as always in Oman, although they won’t have as many options as in other editions.
The British Mark Cavendish, at 37 years old is one of the great attractions and he will try to open his triumph account with his new Astana jersey.
“Express of Man” will not be easy, because will have well-known rivals, such as the Belgian Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick Step) and the German Pascal Ackermann (UAE), who will share the drawings with the Italian Diego Ulissi.
The Sultanate Test is hillier than the UAE Tour. The first finish in Muscat is for the sprinters, then the climb begins: Qurayyat (2.6 km at 7%), last climb on Week 12; Jabal Haat (4.6 km at 8.5%), a very important objective on Monday the 13th; Yitti Hills (Tuesday 14th), with 1,600m at 6.6% just one kilometer from the finish line; and, above all, the traditional Jabal Al Akhdar, the Green Mountain on Wednesday the 15th, with 5.7 km at 10.5% unevenness.
