Yibing Wu, the first Chinese champion in ATP history

In an epic match, without a service break, decided in three tiebreaks and after three hours and two minutes of play, Yibing Wu (97th in the world) became the first Chinese player to win an ATP tournament by winning the Dallas after defeating the American. Wu, who became the junior world number one and became the first Chinese to play in an ATP final, survived four match points and 44 aces hit by the American veteran.

Wu, who will climb to 57th place in the ATP rankings, fought back, the highest of his entire career. The 23-year-old from Hangzhou was winless against opponents ranked in the world’s top 30 before this week.

But the eastern tennis player who defeated the Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the tournament draw and the American Taylor Fritz, the first favorite, in the semifinals, lived a few magical days.
