About a hundred athletes from Cartagena share 32,000 euros this year to help them for expenses, travel and various competitions, even internationally. Among those elected, the city council has selected three women who bear the name of Cartagena outside the region of Murcia.
One of them is Carlota Prendes, European champion and third in the world in Brazilian jiu-jitsu; boxer Nayara Arroyo, already an international with Spain and aiming for the Paris Olympics in 2024; and Esther Mora, who pays for out-of-pocket travel with little backing to become a kettlebell world champion.
Also on the list is Daniel Cegarra, who recently represented the municipality with two medals in the Abu Dhabi Road World Championship. The swimmers Alberto Martínez and Alejandro Puebla continue for another year, as well as athletes from the UCAM Athletics Cartagena.
