Daniil Medvedev, sixth seed, returned on Tuesday against Alejandro Davidovich (4-6, 6-2 and 6-2). on his return to the slopes after the Australian Open and qualified for the round of 16 of the ATP 250 tournament in Rotterdam.
Medvedev, world number 1 and who has not played a tournament since losing to American Sebastian Korda in the round of 32 in Melbourne, will meet in the round of 16 with the winner of Wednesday’s match between Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp and the Frenchman Quentin Hays.
Alejandro Davidovich scores the first set 4-6 after exchanging service breaks which was decided in the fifth and sixth set points that the man from Malaga would get.
The Russian reacted quickly and broke serve twice of the Spaniards to extend the rivalry after 6-2.
In the final set the exchange of ‘breaks’ returned and this time the balance tipped in Medvedev’s sidewho won the match by 6-2 after a two-hour battle.
