Carlos Alcaraz: “There were moments I couldn’t handle”

Date:

After his 6-2, 4-6 and 6-2 victory over Serbian Laslo Djere (57) in the round of 16 of the Argentina Open, Carlos Alcaraz maintained that he “has a lot of room to improve” but “it’s good” for their first game of the season after a four-month break.

The truth is that for me it is a pleasure to be in Argentina. I expected love but not so much and I felt at home. It is appreciated and it helped me a lot to have this environment”, said the 19-year-old from Murcia in a press conference.

“Returning to competition is not easy. I go to every tournament with the intention of winning it. My first game of the year after four years was a good game but far from my usual level. Despite the blows there were moments when I didn’t know how to deal with it. And that’s given to you by the competition that helps you figure out how to deal with it in certain ways.. The rhythm between points is given by playing several games and that’s what I lack”, analyzed the current number two in the world.

});

I feel so good. I played at a good level but I have a lot of room for improvement. The only way to improve is to play matches. It will gradually improve. Playing in front of legends like Gabriela Sabatini is a source of pride”, added the tennis player who has five titles to his credit and is playing ATP 250 in Buenos Aires for the first time.

I want to play this tournament. Even if it is 500 it depends on last year’s calendar because it is very close to Australia. I’m loving this experience to see if I can repeat it but for now I’m feeling comfortable”, said Alcaraz, who will face fellow Serbian Dusan Lajovic (90) in the quarterfinals on Friday.

From the first practice I feel the love of people everywhere. It’s good that so many kilometers from your home you feel at home, it’s amazing”, completed the eventual US Open champion, who missed the Australian Open due to injury.
