The Colombian Einer Rubio (Movistar) achieved his first professional victory at the top of Jebel Jais, in fourth stage of the UAE Touron a very special day, because the Chiquiza cyclist will be 25 years old.
“The truth is that it’s incredible. First professional success! These past years I’ve been through a lot of things that hurt me a lot. Now I am in good shape. My team carried me like royalty on the climb“said Rubio over the Emirati.
A heroic victory for the Movistar cyclist, as he attacked 10 km from the top and then managed to maintain a lead of 50 seconds to the finish line.
“I have reached the foot of the port and I want to try from the bottom, I come with a lot of energy. Winning here is amazing. Today’s tactic is to hold the steering wheel until later, but I had a lot of energy, I was with my teammates, I had to try and we did well today”, he commented.
A special day is coming to make up for Rubio’s past struggles.
“In the last kilometers, I was always unsure that they would come for me, but I had the strength, I held on well and this gave me the win. For me it is something very special for my sports career; I had a lot of problems in the last years, because I had the strength but I came to the races and I couldn’t force it”.
A victory “for me, for my family, for Colombia… it’s an incredible day. I believe that now we will continue on the right path, striving to maintain this line. Today is my birthday too! What a greater gift than this…”, he concluded.
