Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco) is “delighted” with his second victory of the season achieved in the fifth stage of the Tour UAE, while the leader of the race, the Belgian Remco Evenepoel is considered “good” to extend his lead in the general to 2 seconds.
“It was a very difficult and contested sprint. I know my legs are good and my team put me in a very good position at the end, so it’s a great win. It’s important for me to get these wins, positive that now I have a win in each of the two races I have run so far, said the Dutch sprinter.
For his part, Remco Evenepoel, in the red jersey, accepted the 2-second lead he extended over his rivals, the Australian from Ineos Luke Plapp and the Spaniard from Bahrain Pello Bilbao.
“We were in a good position in the last 20km, especially when Plapp was temporarily removed. The rest of the stage was quite easy, but it showed that you have to stay focused. In the end everything came back and we handled it well. It was good extend my lead by two seconds, plus this race can be reduced to a very small time gap.”
