Rahm says he can’t lose when playing at his highest level

Date:

Jon Rahmnumber one in the world golf rankings, assured on Tuesday that he is invincible when he plays at his highest level, although he reckoned that many of his rivals have the same idea about his own potential, in the press conference before The Arnold Palmer Invitational from Orlando (Florida).

“No”, Rahm replied when asked if any player could beat him at his best.

“I think a lot of my rivals feel the same way I do,” he added, however.

Rahm later reflected that “you don’t always have to be at your best to win” and told an anecdote about a conversation he had Tiger Woods about this theme.

“Tiger and I talked about it, I asked him about his 82 victories on the PGA Tour and how many times he played his best in all four days. He told me three maximum,” he said.

the one of barrelwho became world number one two weeks ago after winning the Genesis Invitational, admitted that reaching the top of the rankings by being crowned champion of a tournament gives him great “satisfaction”.

“It gives you a lot of satisfaction when you hit number one when other players are playing great golf. Scottie (Scheffler) had a great year last year and even though he won ( this year) in Phoenix, I was able to become number one right after. It gives you a lot of satisfaction,” he said.

“And if you’re going to do it, you want to do it by winning. Doing it by coming tenth in a tournament is nowhere near it,” he added.

Rahm returned, less than a year later, to the pinnacle of world golf after his third brilliant victory at the Genesis Invitational, played at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades (California).

The Spaniard, who marked the historic figure of winning his third tournament of the season at this stage of the course (he previously won the Sentry Tournament and the American Express), surpassed the American in the overall list Scheffler and in northern irish Rory McIlroy.

Rahm was at the top of the table for 43 weeks between July 2020 and March 2022. Now he’s back after a few really full months. Since finishing second at the BMW PGA Championship in September, he has not left the ‘top 10’ in any tournament, including five victories.
