Auxerre added to the Allianz Riviera against Nice their fifth consecutive game without defeat (1-1) and increased their hopes of becoming permanent in Ligue 1, which this weekend reached the twenty-sixth day.
Christophe Pelissier’s team, promoted this season to the top division of French football, spent most of the season in the bottom half, but the improvement in recent weeks, especially after the World Cup, has changed of the team’s perspective.
In fact, Auxerre took the lead thanks to a goal from Gauthier Hein in the 36th minute, although the reaction of Didier Digard’s block led to a free kick inside the box by Akim Zedadka which resulted in a penalty in favor of Nice.
Gaetan Laborde took the shot from eleven meters, but Romanian goalkeeper Ionut Radu saw it off.
Laborde made up for his mistake in first-half added time by heading in a Jordan Lotomba cross.
Nice walked away from Europe despite their unbeaten streak
The marker did not change in the second half and the clash ended with a point for each team. Auxerre temporarily exited relegation, marking the edge of permanence with a point advantage over Ajaccio and Nice dropped out of the European zone (remaining 4 points behind) despite going into the ninth round unbeaten .
