Mechaal: “Jakob is so ambitious that there are no words to describe him”

Adel Mechaalcurrent Spanish champion of the 3,000 meters indoors, was declared this Saturday, after accessing the final of the European Indoor Track Championships in Istanbul (Turkey), that the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen is “so ambitious that there are no words to describe him” and pointed out in the final, “besides winning, he still wants to break the record” of distance.

The Spanish athlete, with a time of 7:50.69, reached the final with the second best score of all participants in the second series, surpassed only by Serbian Elzan Bibic (7:50.21). In the other race, Ingebrigtsen won with authority but with a very slow pace just thirteen hours after winning gold in the 1,500.

“The race was pretty clean, very fast. When running the second series we had to do 7:56 and all but one of us entered. The beginning was at a comfortable pace, I caught up, and I did not suffer. It’s a different race from the final, which would be difficult to do in one file. Now we were ten, we were going well, and at 1,500 pace I started to improve to be in the top six,” said Mechaal, at the end of the race.

“For the last four days I’ve had a break from the thrashing of the last two weeks and to do 7.50 at ten in the morning is a good result.. Tomorrow you have to be ready for everything. The sensations are good but it seems very complicated after Jakob went 3:33 alone yesterday”, he confessed.

“Jakob is so ambitious that there are no words to describe him. Besides winning, he also wants to break the record. to come out like a star. He did a great job yesterday, he won easily. I think tomorrow doesn’t like surprises. He feels very good and has very good self-esteem that he can break the race in six laps to go and think ‘who can follow me'”, he said.

“Tomorrow you have to be attentive to decisive changes, not to go all out, and I’ll try to read the race to get something done“, he concluded.
