PSG put the league on track and have their sights set on the Champions League

Date:

It’s a game that isn’t too dirty, but PSG have a habit of making life difficult. The win against Nantes could be a formality, but in the end the champions had to roll up their sleeves: 4-2. A not-so-brilliant performance, perhaps a prelude before facing Bayern in the Champions League on Wednesday to show it’s worse than ever. Messi put the match away and Mbappé closed it out to become the top scorer in the club’s history on his own. Job done, league on track.

The night was meant to be quiet, but at PSG nothing can be taken for granted. Something seems not right. Not with the first goal of Messi, who took away a good assist from Nuno Mendes with his finger, even Hadjam, through his own goal, seriously compromised Nantes: 2-0. The clash was put before the champion who, out of laziness or boredom, decided to invite his rival to compete again.

Donnarumma, an overrated goalkeeper, has a lot to blame for this. While Keylor Navas had to go to England through the back door, the Italian is used to people making a few mistakes in every game. Against Nantes, two more. The first, for not protecting the short stick in a corner shot by Blas: 2-1. The second, after a corner where he took the step on the wrong side. Ganago’s hold on the hump resulted in a tie: 2-2.

Donnarumma is always in the picture. Last season at the Santiago Bernabéu and two weeks ago in the first leg of the Champions League against Bayern. Fortunately, he has exceptional teammates around him. Mbappé put in a held cross so that Danilo, an important warrior for Christophe Galtier, headed towards the goal: 3-2. The stands were excited that Mbappé would surpass Cavani’s record, but VAR overturned a penalty previously awarded for offside.

Marquinho left after a blow to the hip, although it was only as a precaution. Nantes insisted on getting something good until the end, but PSG held on. The victory, more pragmatic than beautiful, served to put a league back on a path closer to revalidation. Mbappé surpassed Cavani’s record in extra time by scoring his 201st goal in a Parisian shirt on the half-turn. The stadium collapsed. Now, for the Champions League.
