Accession as a goal – Zelenskyj wants to strengthen cooperation with the EU

Date:

EU accession negotiations with Ukraine are unlikely to start soon. The leadership in Kiev has already had to accept that. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to significantly expand cooperation with the European institutions in the current year.

“The task is to actively prepare everything for our country’s membership in the European Union, increase arms supplies to Ukraine and strengthen sanctions against Russia,” the 45-year-old said in his daily video message on Saturday. He also met with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.

Conference on the Prosecution of War Crimes
According to him, Metsola was one of the high-ranking participants in the legal conference “United for Justice” in the Western Ukrainian city of Lviv. There it was not only about solving Russian crimes, but also about rehabilitating the victims of violence, Zelenskyj said. They should be given the chance to return to their normal lives.

In addition, the president reported on a congress of local and regional authorities of Ukraine. The main themes were security, energy, social protection, financial issues and anti-corruption. At the same time, the government also approved an anti-corruption program on Saturday, Zelensky said.
