Vladimir Putin met members of his Security Council via videoconference yesterday to discuss the situation after the explosion that destroyed part of the Kerch Bridge on Saturday. Speaking to this consultative body, which is crucial to the Kremlin’s decision-making process, the Russian president warned the Ukrainian authorities that “if attempts to carry out terrorist attacks continue, Russia’s responses will be harsh and their magnitude will with the level of threats to the Russian Federation. There can be no doubt about that.”
The Kremlin head believes that “the regime in Kiev has truly placed itself on the same level as international terrorist formations with its actions.” In his opinion, it is simply impossible to leave such crimes unanswered. Therefore, in the morning, at the suggestion of the Ministry of Defense and in accordance with the plan of the Russian General Staff, a massive, high-precision long-range attack by air, sea and land was launched against energy facilities, commander Ukrainian army and communications.
Putin began his speech by pointing out that Alexander Bastrikin, chairman of the Russian Instruction Commission, had informed him on Sunday “of the first results of the investigation into the sabotage committed on the Crimean Bridge. Data from forensic and other investigations, as well as operational intelligence, indicate that the explosion is a terrorist act aimed at destroying Russia’s critical civilian infrastructure, ordered, organized and carried out by the Ukrainian security service.
According to his view, the regime in Kiev has long used terrorist methods, such as assassinations of public figures, journalists, scientists, both in Ukraine and Russia, or attacks on the cities of Donbas.
