Elche and Mallorca tie in an exciting game

Date:

While José Bordalás’ assistant, Edu Albacar, hangs around the Martínez Valero Stadium, former singer and soccer player, Alberto Gallego Laencuentra ‘Lanco’, (currently an Ilicitano coach) sits for the first time in a First Division bank. His club, Elche CF, picked him to try to beat Real Mallorca and add three points that would take him off the bottom of the table. He earned a tie.

As if there wasn’t enough tension in the atmosphere of Elche, an overcast sky, full of lightning and thunder, and a veritable deluge descended on Elche…

[+] Check out the match summary:

And the game, after several power outages, started half an hour late and there was a great chance to score for the visiting Muriqi, which Edu Badía saved with his foot. Just 55 seconds later a crash that started and ended crazy.

It was so crazy that, in the 9th minute, the referee, at the request of VAR, awarded a penalty to the visitor Antonio Sánchez, who was trying to progress between Bigas and Clerc. The highest penalty, by Bigas stepping on the visiting player, launched by Muriqi, was stopped by Edgar Badía.

In the following action, and in what was Elche’s first arrival in the Balearic area, a corner kick was finished, with a header, by Ezequiel Ponce, making it 1-0 to the stupor of the islanders, who wasted until on three clear scoring chances in the opening stretch.

After the local goal, Mallorca continued to push Elche, but the break came with a slight advantage from Elche.

After intermission, the madness continued. In the 58th minute, the referee, after consulting the VAR, sent off the local Lucas Boyé, who arrived two minutes before replacing Josan, with a direct red card. Boyé kicked Grenier in the knee while playing the ball, and Pizarro initially showed him the yellow card, but then corrected. Elche were left with 10 men with a long game ahead of them.

In minute 69, more wood. The penalty was discussed, taken by goalkeeper Edgar Badía who, on his way out, overpowered Raíllo, when, previously, Pedro Bigas had cleared the ball. Muriqi repeated the launch and this time he beat the local goalkeeper (1-1).

But the tension is not over yet. Not much less. Referee Pizarro Gómez, again at VAR’s request, dismissed the visiting Muriqi with a straight red card for grabbing Pere Milla’s head. The forces were leveled before an electric finale in which both teams launched themselves to break a tie that had become decisive.
