Manchester United’s captain, Portuguese Bruno Fernandes, admitted he and his team-mates felt “a lot of anger” after the defeat against Liverpool, but defended the 7-0 win “not referring” to his team.
Speaking to Portuguese channel Eleven Sports, Fernandes commented on Sunday’s disaster at Anfield, where his side suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat, and said there was “a lot to beat”.
“This match does not define this team, it cannot define this team. At least for us. It may define it for others, but not for us. The road is still long,” said the Portuguese international.
The ‘Red Devils’ captain added that the season is not lost, as they have only lost three points, stressing that “you have to believe that there is still a lot to cover”.
sadness and anger
However, he acknowledged that United’s players were feeling “a lot of sadness, a lot of anger. Losing a home game to an opponent is bad enough, losing like this is even worse.”
Manchester United went into the break 1-0 down after a goal at the end of the first half by Liverpool, before Bruno Fernandes said his team didn’t know how to “react”, and conceded again from the start of the second. “From there we gave Liverpool too much space to go on the counterattack and we know they are very strong in that,” summed up the Portuguese.
“Immediate response against Betis”
Manchester United’s next commitment is next Thursday against Betis in the round of 16 (first leg) of the Europa League. “There is not much to say at times like this. You have to give an answer immediately on Thursday, in another competition, but there is nothing to say. We have to move on,” declared Bruno Fernandes.
