Real Valladolid added three golden points against Tenerife, in a match where the locals suggested more and they knew how to take thanks to the effectiveness shown in the second half.
The tactical strategies of both teams were seen, along with the changes made, on the field of play, by the two coaches, to surprise a direct rival in the fight for promotion.
So, Paulo Pezzolano proposed a defense with only two center-backs -Boyomo and David Torres-, to strengthen the midfield and control the possible breakdowns of the Tenerife team, and chose Meseguer, after his good performance in the match in the Copa del Rey.
In the case of Asier Garitano, he made changes to the players’ positions to also give more prominence to the middle of the field, with Enric Gallego and Roberto González at the top of the attack.
Few came, as long balls were abused, and the ball remained, in most cases, in the middle of the field, where players struggled to hold onto it and find a way out.
The truth is there is no spectacle to be seen. Small creation that, when it was achieved, more evident in the white and purple team, came from a set piece or with some lateral cross, but without any effective performance.
The clearest chance came in the 40th minute, with a cross from Luis Pérez from the right wing that was widened by Sylla, as he jumped early and miscalculated the arrival of the ball.
And Sylla also tried to break the 0-0 with a good shot that forced Soriano into the middle, followed by another shot by Boyomo, with a header, that went wide. On that last play we reached the break.
The locals increased possession of the ball. They quickly recovered and made it closer to the opposing area. And Moro jumped onto the pitch, replacing Anuar, a starter for the first time this season, to try to find more overflow.
It turned out to be a charm. Moments later, Monchu took a shot off his hat with impact, surprising Soriano who scored the first goal of the match. The greatest effort to reach the chicharrera area found its reward.
Escudero managed to increase Real Valladolid’s advantage, but his shot, from the edge of the area, could have been cleared by the Tenerife goalkeeper, who was caught by Blanquivioletas. In fact, in the 73rd minute, the islanders didn’t have any shots on goal or any corner kicks.
But Ángel’s departure gave life to Garitano’s team, and he had a good shot, but the ball went too wide and went into the stands, due to the strong wind. Enric Gallego also tried it, but it didn’t give Masip a problem.
Tenerife went all out in the latter stages, looking for an equaliser. But what came was the second goal for Real Valladolid, from Lucas Rosa, who came from behind to finish, perfectly, Luis Pérez’s pass and the play started by Juric.
