Spanish tennis has had a rich harvest this season, especially in the men’s circuit, which has won nine titles at one time. Carlos Alcaraz Y Pablo Carreno gained another victory by sweeping the final of Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Conde de Godó Trophy.
With the success of Paula Badosa In Sydney, Spanish tennis already has 10 titles in 2022, shared among six different players that will be seven if Carreño wins the final.
If Alcaraz wins in Barcelona, he will equal three trophies this year from Rafael Nadalchampion in Melbourne, the Australian Open, where he added his 21st Grand Slam, a new solo record, and Acapulco.
The 18-year-old from Murcia has now won this season on Rio ATP and the Miami Masters 1,000victories that put him on the threshold of the world top-10, a hurdle that will jump this Monday after his performance in Godó: Alcaraz will rise from number 11 to 9 regardless of the final result.
Three other Spanish tennis players also lifted this year’s trophy, the Catalan Albert Ramos (Cordoba), the native of Castellón Robert Baptist (Doha) and the Valencian Peter Martinez (Santiago, Chile).
