The portuguese striker Gonçalo Guedes, currently at Benfica on loan from Wolves, will undergo surgery for an injury to his left knee, the Lisbon club reported Friday in a statement. Benfica did not specify the withdrawal period.
In the note, shared on its website, Benfica only advocates that the surgical intervention will be “in the next few days” and does not mention When will the former Valencia player return to the pitch?.
Guedes, 29, was injured in a Portuguese League match on February 25 and has not played since.
Eagles coach Roger Schmidt called him up on Tuesday for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bruges, but did not come off the bench in a 5-1 win.
Gonçalo Guedes returned to Benfica, his training club, on loan from Wolves in January, which lost popularity with the arrival of Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui.
Its impact on Lisbon was immediate, with two goals and one assist in seven games. The Portuguese international will therefore miss Benfica’s next match, the championship leader, who visit the Marítimo on Sunday.
