Brazilian Rodrigo Becao gave Udinese a win on Saturday in their visit to Empoli (0-1). Three points that put the ‘Zebrette’ team back in the fight for a place in next season’s European competitions.
Becao broke the difficult streak of an Udinese team without a win since January 22. Since that date, four draws and two defeats have distanced what was Italy’s revelation team in the early days of a dream that now is about to be reached again.
And it was Becao’s header in the 54th minute that tipped the balance in an even match but where the visitors enjoyed the clearest chance and deserved victory. Especially in the first half where Udogie, Bijol or Success were very close to opening the scoring.
The strategy to alleviate the loss of Deulofeu
The team led by Andrea Sottil did not disappoint, having lost offensive potential without Spaniard Gerard Deulofeu, who is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, and found its reward in set pieces in the defensive area that of Empoli.
For now, Udinese remain ninth, tied on points with Bologna and Juventus, and seven for an Atalanta who occupy sixth place and travel to Naples to face the leaders tonight.
Empoli added their third straight defeat and remain in 14th position, with ten cushion points on relegation.
