Feyenoord resisted Ajax’s pressure and continued to lead

Mexican Santiago Giménez promoted the comeback against Volendam (2-1) of a Feyenoord that maintained a three-point advantage over Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie. Next Sunday both teams meet in a decisive classic at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

After reaching the break with the advantage of the visitor with a goal from Daryl van Mieghem, Giménez started the reaction of the Rotterdam team with a goal in the 52nd minute followed by an own goal by Damon Mirani (m.74).

Arne Slot’s team thus extended their streak to five wins to respond to Ajax’s earlier feat in the Heerenveen fiefdom (2-4).

Ajax swallowed

Mohamed Kudus (10′), Edson Álvarez (16′) and Steven Bergwijn (19′) set up a devastating 0-3 lead in the opening stretch. Although Pelle van Amersfoort closed the gap late in the first half (42′), Kenneth Taylor scored the fourth (52′) before Sydney van Hooijdonk made it 2-4 (79′).

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s PSV (fourth, 6 points behind Feyenoord) endorsed bottom club Cambuur 5-2. After Remco Balk’s 0-1 draw (22′), Xavi Simons, the league’s top scorer, equalized with his 12th Eredivisie goal (25′). In the second half came the win with goals from Patrick van Aanholt (54′), Anwar El Ghazi (56′ and 88′) and Fabio Silva, from a penalty (65′). Bjorn Johnsen made it a short-lived 3-2 (61′).
