Billy Kennywhich in the 90s was a good promise of Everton and who saw how his football career ended so early, tells his shocking story to ‘Liverpool Echo’, explaining how addictions destroyed him during his time with the English team´.
“I didn’t drink beer until I got to the first team of Everton. It’s kind of standard. I felt like I had to fit in with the team because I was still young. That’s when I drank alcohol and did cocaine for 25 years non-stop. It is non-stop. I’m surprised he’s still alive. I just got up, drank, drank for two days, drank for three days, slept for two days, ate Chinese food and went back to the same thing,” he said, adding that “I was fucking selfish. All I want is alcohol and drugs.”
Now at 49, he comments “I’m sober and that’s great. I know where I went wrong when I was young. I see clearly that I need help, but help is not there for me. I got a second opportunity in life. I played at Everton And no one can take that away from me. Enjoy it. Now it’s another phase of my life and I’m starting to enjoy it. I still have bad days, where I have to work hard to stay sane and sane, but I feel like life is going to be good for me.”
