Facundo Bagnis, Alcaraz’s first rival in Miami

The Argentinian Facundo Bagnisnumber 100 in the world ranking, defeated Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves (n.162) this Wednesday and will be first rival of the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraznumber one and current champion, at Miami Masters 1,000.

Bagnis, 33, won 6-3, 1-6 and 6-4 against Meligeni Alves, who entered the main draw from the qualifications.

The Argentine will face Alcaraz for the second time in his career, after losing the first match in two sets, in the quarterfinals of Umag 2022.

Alcaraz arrives in Miami after winning the fourth Masters 1,000 of his career at Indian Wellswith an exhibition against the Russian Daniil Medvedev that also returned him the first position in the world ranking.

To maintain his leadership in the ranking, Alcaraz, 19, must confirm himself as the champion in Miami. If he does not do so, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, absent because of his refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, will take back the scepter.

Among other results on Wednesday, Argentine Pablo Cachín fell against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics by 6-4 and 7-6 (2).

Spanish tennis lost Albert Ramos, who could use his service 5-4 in favor in the second set, but Swiss Marc Andrea Huesler prevailed, winning 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2 ) and 6-3 .
