21 years after several confrontations in between Rafael van der Vart and Zlatan Ibrahimovicin the early 2000s they were both active in Ajaxthe former Dutch international talks about the matter on the ‘Talksport’ YouTube channel. In his autobiography, Zlatan mentioned an incident when they faced each other in a national team match and Van der Vaart accused him of trying to hurt him, while they were teammates.
Today Van der Vaart spoke again about the conflict. They asked him what Zlatan really was. And his answer was not wasted: “An idiot. From my point of view, he was very arrogant. I had a big ego and we were both young.” According to the former Real Madrid player, there came a point where two players refused to play together and one of them had to change teams. “Two days later, he went to Juventus because he had to leave or me. He was lucky that Juventus wanted to sign him and I was lucky to stay at the club of my dreams.”
A lot of time passed and, although they didn’t keep in touch, things calmed down. “I really hope I can see him again because I have a lot of respect for him,” he adds.
