the period of premier league from Ukraine (UPL) has ended and will no longer be awarded the title due to the continuation of martial law in the country, the league said. No games have been played since Russia invaded Ukraine in what Moscow calls “a special military operation.”
The final round of games was played in December before the league’s three -month winter break began. Shakhtar Donetsk lead the league table with 47 points from 18 games, two points ahead of Dynamo Kyiv.
“Ukrainian Premier League football clubs have supported the proposal to end the 2021-22 season … as the championship will not be completed due to the extension of the state of martial law in Ukraine,” UPL said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The ranking on February 24, 2022 will be the final ranking of the 2021-22 season, with no winners awarded. The corresponding decision will be submitted for approval by the executive committee of the Ukrainian Football Association.”
The top two teams qualify for the Champions League.
