McIlroy dropped Jon Rahm to third in the world golf rankings

the northern irish Rory McIlroy, ranked third this Sunday in the WGC Dell Technologies match play held in Austin (Texas), has seized second place in the world golf rankings from Jon Rahm.

While the player from Barrika did not make it past the group stage, McIlroy managed to reach the semifinals and after losing to the American Cameron Young he prevailed in the fight for third place with Scottie Scheffler, who remains number one in the world with an average of 10.40 points.

The Northern Irishman now racks up 9.07, to Rahm’s 8.95who this season already has three wins on the American circuit and is ahead of Patrick Cantlay (7.13), who fell in the round of 16 against his compatriot Sam Burns, who eventually won in Austin.

Burns, who is making his debut in WGC match play, aged 26, moves up to tenth place on the list. This is the second change in the first places besides the promotion of McIlroy. Of others there is no news: the Australian Cameron Smith was fifth, Americans Max Homa, Xander Schauffele and Will Zalatoris were sixth, seventh and eighthand Norwegian Viktor Hovland ninth.

For other Spaniards, Adri Arnaus dropped to square 79, Adrián Otaegui to 86 and Pablo Larrazábal continued to 93.
