Michael Schumacher’s iconic Ferrari is up for auction in Hong Kong

Date:

Sotheby’s auction house in Hong Kong will sell, between April 3 and 12, a race-winning Ferrari F1-2000 driven by until his victory in the 2000 Brazilian Grand Prix by the German driver Michael Schumacher.

The vehicle will be on display from April 1 to 6 to celebrate 50 years of Sotheby’s in Asia.

This car was decisive in Schumacher’s first victory with the Maranello team.

It represents a “rare opportunity to own a piece of history“, the auction house collects on its website.

This is the single-seater with chassis number 198, equipped with a redesigned 90-degree V-10 engine that can generate around 780 horsepower through a seven-speed gearbox.

An example of Ferrari’s golden age began as Schumacher’s spare car in 2000where he achieved victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix and pole position in the Spanish and Monaco Grand Prix.

The last time the motorist contested a race with this sports car was at the Austrian Grand Prix, where it ended abruptly when Ricardo Zonta took him out on the first lap, so the car was never used again.

It has been rebuilt by Ferrari to become an iconic piece in the collector’s garage.even Schumacher’s prototypes have a history of reaching big numbers.

The German racing icon’s car is expected to fetch an astronomical price after his 2003 title-winning car was auctioned in November for $14.8 million (€13.667 million), making it the most expensive modern-day Formula 1 car ever sold.
