Fernando Alonso believes he can fight for his third title in the next few years with Aston Martin. Believe it is possible. In fact, it was something he had been thinking about for years. Asturian returns in 2021 to F1 for that reason and now, to a great start in his first year at Aston Martin, seeing it closer. The Asturian pilot reiterated his goal in a video interview broadcast by the brand Bang and Olufsen. The interview was conducted after the first podium of the year, achieved in the first race of the course in Bahrain, so the Spaniard has been cautious about his options this year with Aston Martin. What he did not hide was his desire to continue “how many years”and hope to do so “as a future title contender”.
“This is the main goal, of course. I think at this moment we need to keep our feet on the ground. The team’s goal is to have a good season. They suffered a lot in 2022 and I think we need to walk before we run. I think the 2023 course is about improvement, starting a new project from day one and that’s where we are at the moment. We can fight for more podiums, we can fight to win races, but I think to fight for the title, as I said, I think we have to establish the team”, commented before achieving two more podiums in the following two appointments, where the AMR23 it was confirmed as a podium based car before the arrival of the expected evolutions.

“Ayrton Senna, your idol, won 3 titles. Do you still believe that a third title is possible?” asked the interviewer. There, Alonso was very confident that he could achieve it and it is very clear that this goal is what motivates him to continue at 41 years old. “I always believed it was possible. That’s why I keep running. I know that the challenge is great, that we have to overcome some difficulties, some teams that are now at the top of the sport… I run every day, and I train every day thinking that a third title is possible”he declared.
How many years did he put in the F1 maximum?
Because of this, Alonso does not dare to talk about a specific number of years to end his second stint in F1. He has changed his plans several times as a result of that goal to achieve more goals and because of how passionate he is about F1.
“I want to know the answer too.” he said with a smile. “I think when I started in F1 my idea was to be in F1 for about 7 or 8 years. I won two titles and I thought I wanted to race for one or two more years and then stop, that was my idea, And now I find myself in the longest race in Formula 1″.
“I feel like I’m still fresh, I’m still motivated and I’m still enjoying every day. When I wake up in the morning, I’m happy with what I’m doing. I think I have a few more years to go and hopefully. as a future title contender.” added.
Best rival in F1
“It’s hard to pick one. Because they are all great rivals and great talents too. When I came to this sport, Michael Schumacher was dominating the races and everything, I would probably still choose against him. The fight with Michael was very special, so I’ll say that one.
New records in the last campaign
“When you compete for many years, you start breaking records, but I think the only important thing is to win and break the title record, and I think maybe it’s urgent now, because there are 7 titles for Michael (Schumacher) and 7 for Hamilton, no possibilities, but that’s the goal, in the end.
“I read that obviously, I don’t know those numbers. It’s nice to know that I broke some records”.
3 moments of his sports career
“I think I will take the memories you have from so many different teams and the results you have. With Ferrari I will probably take the first race, which I won. For Aston Martin, the first podium. And at Renault, the first championship, because the second is exciting, but the first is making a dream come true and achieving the goal of a lifetime.
favorite track
“I will stay at Suzuka. It has a lot of fast corners, as well as Monaco as a weekend in general because of everything that is happening, but I will stay at Suzuka”.
sound at f1
“When I think of F1 about F1, many things come to my mind: the engine, the power, things you hear in the garage, the mechanics’ tools, and also the fans. There are so many differences when driving you. . Be quiet. , be alone in the car, only in communication with your engineer… when you think about how I perceive F1 compared to my driving, the sensation is very different.”
