Kenti Robles, head of the Mexican women’s team and Real Madrid, He assured this Friday in an interview with EFE that he dreams of wearing the El Tri shield in the 2027 World Cup and he is in the dream, guiding his team on the first tour in its history through USA and being part of the Madrid club, which he considers “the best in the world”.
Robles is concentrated in Chicago with the Mexican team, facing the first edition of ‘Mex Tour F’ with two games against the Red Stars this Saturday in Chicago and against the Dash on Tuesday the 11th in Houston.
He feels “in a family” in the group led by the Spanish coach Pedro Lopez and considers that women’s football has made “giant strides” in the past five years.
It will be played on Saturday at SeatGeek Stadium in Chicago, where there is a community of one million Mexicans that he hopes will inspire his passion for soccer. He enjoys being close to his country, where he wants to finish his career. Previously, he focused “to the maximum” on Real Madrid and on Spain, where he is at home.
Ask: It was part of the women’s team’s first tour of the United States. How are you living this moment?
Answer: We bring the selection to the United States, to places where there are many Mexicans. Again I am glad to carry this shield. In terms of the game, they will be very attractive matches for the spectator, they will be very useful for (the coach) Pedro (López) to implement our idea of the game. We want to get Mexico where it should be.
Q: In Chicago there is a community of one million Mexicans. How do you live out your role as an inspiration for the younger generation?
A: When we carry this shield it is a responsibility and an honor. We need to be an example to inspire new generations, and not only them, all people of different ages.
Q: In 2017, you strongly called for more investment in Mexican women’s soccer. Six years later, the structure grew vertically.
A: Creating the league is something very positive for my teammates. They went from not having a team to having one, from having continuity, from having games abroad. In five years, women’s football has grown rapidly. A good example is the World Cup and it is more.
Women’s football is growing a lot, but this growth has to be accompanied by us, who must continue to stay on the ground and keep our feet on the ground, this is what will differentiate us from men’s football.
Q: What do you think are the next steps?
A: The role of the media and networks will be very important to continue the spread of football. I don’t want to compare women’s football with men’s. But if someone goes to watch a women’s soccer match, they will be pronounced.
Q: Do you want to play in the Mexican league in the future?
A: I like. I know that I have this season and the next one at Real Madrid. I am fully committed to them, but in the future I want to finish my degree in Mexico.
Q: You made your World Cup debut in Germany in 2011. Have you ever thought about reaching 2027?
A: If I think about it, I want to be a part of the 2027 World Cup. There’s still a lot left, I live every concentration, every game, every training session thinking it’s the last. You never know what can happen. Football is something very fast, you have to enjoy it every minute, because everything can change a lot.
I want to continue enjoying it, I have the same enthusiasm as when I started. It’s an amazing thing to wear this shirt and be surrounded by this group of people. I enjoyed it very much.
Q: How is your coach, Pedro López?
A: Pedro, and not only him, but the entire coaching staff is very close to us. They seek to make the most of the nutritional, psychological aspects. All the players feel like they are in a family.
Q: At club level, Real Madrid is having the best results from its women’s sports project. How are you at the club?
A: I am very happy, I am in the best club in the world. In men we saw an example of what Real Madrid is (after a 0-4 defeat at Camp Nou against Barcelona). Another game where you can see that when you think all is lost, they keep at it.
We are working to make history like them. It’s been a great season, we’ve never had such a great season. We were just born, together with Toril we managed to turn this group into a team. We are on an upward path.
