Three days before the first leg against Bayern in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Erling Haaland scored a brace in the 4-1 win of his Manchester City against Southampton. The Norwegian star reappeared after a groin injury and his second goal was spectacular, from the scissors.
Pep Guardiola, City manager, has heaped praise on Haaland. “We got used to the goalscoring figures of Messi and Cristiano for 20 years. Now Haaland is in those figures, he is at his level.”said the Catalan coach.
Haaland22 years old and signed for City last summer, He has 30 ‘targets’ in the Premier, Just 4 shy of the English championship single-season record, set at 34 by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.
Guardiola also said of Haaland: “His season was crazy. His second goal in particular was incredible. It’s not easy to bring the ball down from the sky and direct it to the grass.”
