Jorge Prado, second in Switzerland and established himself as the leader of the MXGP World Championship

Date:

Jorge Prado (GasGas) ended this Monday second in the Swiss Grand Prix of the premier class of the Motocross World Championship (MXGP), held this Monday at the Frauenfeld circuit, where he won the first race and third in the second to establish himself as the leader of the tournament.

Jorge Prado took second place overall in the Grand Prix behind the winner, the French Maxime Renaux (Yamaha), and ahead of the Frenchman Romain Febvre (Kawasaki).

The rider from Lugo, who was the fastest in Saturday’s qualifying round, won the first round. He completed a good start, as usual for him, started in the lead and gradually he was getting an income important enough to manage it and reserve the physicality for the second.

He finally crossed the finish line 6.298 seconds ahead of Renaux and 8.274 of Febvre.

the dutch Calvin Vaanderen signed fourth place ahead of also Galician Ruben Fernandez (Honda), the best in the morning warm-up, who fell behind and ended up getting a good number of points.

“It was a perfect sleeve, even though it was very difficult because the track was complicatedIt’s very narrow and there are a lot of riders. It wasn’t easy to pass so many laps and sometimes we had some dangerous situations, but I’m happy that I handled the situation perfectly”, commented Prado.

In the second race, Renaux led from the start, with Prado and Febvre on the lookout and in a constant battle for second place.

With just over nine minutes remaining in the race, Febvre overtook Prado to take second place and, at speed, sought out his compatriot, as the Spaniard broke free and held on for now.

Maxime Renaux knew how to handle well the last part of the heat, the attacks of his compatriot and the presence of the double to reach the finish line victorious with a margin of 7,825 over Febvre and 17,970 over Prado, completing the podium. This time, Rubén Fernández was eighth in 43,814 and sixth in the grand prix.

“In this sleeve it was harder for me to find the rhythm and I still struggled a bit, but I was happy to continue adding podiums and points to maintain the lead. I hope this continues,” said the Lugo native.

Jorge Prado, who won the first three rounds of the first three races of the World Cup with all three pole positions, also benefited from the decline of Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings (KTM), his overall pursuer, who was fourth in the Grand Prix with a sixth place in the first race and fourth in the second.

With this third place in Switzerland, Jorge Prado establishes himself in the leader of the World Cup, where he has 155 points, 21 more than Herlings, 24 of Renaux and 26 of Febvre. Rubén Fernández is sixth with 94.

The World Cup continues next weekend with the Trentino Grand Prix, at the Italian circuit of Pietramurata.
