Ruud’s mess and Berrettini’s abandonment in the Monte Carlo round of 16

The round of 16 rounds of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 started with surprises. Casper Ruud bid farewell to the first Masters 1000 of the clay court season after losing to Jan-Lennard Struff by 6-1 and 7-6 (6).

The German, who came from the previous stage, already left hints about his good moment by defeating Albert Ramos in the first round and Australian Alex de Miñaur (19 ATP) in the second without losing a set.

He did the same earlier ruudwinner in Estoril last week of his first title of the year but now his game cannot be shown before the courage of Struff.

The Norwegian, a true master on clay, a surface that has given him nine of the ten tournament appearances on his record, lost twice in the first set and two more in the second, although at the end of it he had a good reaction that allowed him to save two match ballswithdraw both serves and go from 5-2 to 6-6.

If the next opponent is a Russian: or Andrey Rublev or Karen Kachanovfifth and ninth seeds in the tournament.

The second classified for the quarterfinals is Holger Rune, who benefited from the withdrawal of Matteo Berrettiniphysically touched after his tough second-round against Francisco Cerúndolo (5-7, 7-6, 6-4).
