The governing body of F1 will hold a hearing next week to address the request for Ferrari to review the time penalty imposed on Carlos Sainz within Australian Grand Prix.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced that a virtual hearing will be held on Tuesday after Ferrari appealed against the Spanish driver’s five-second penalty.
Sainz was sanctioned after his compatriot collided Fernando Alonsopilot of Aston Martin, on the first lap of the final restart of the race, causing the third red flag of a chaotic GP. Only 12 out of 20 pilots of F1 World Cup they finished the exam.
The penalty dropped Sainz from 4th place (12 points) to 12th, with no points. Sainz is 5th overall with 20 points after the first three Grands Prix of the season.
The Ferrari team was disappointed to understand that the penalty was given without the race stewards listening to the drivers and also because it had nothing to do with the podium positions, as the cars could not overtake behind safety car and the last lap is a procession to the finish. line.
“Right now, I can’t speak. I am very angry and disappointed. I just can’t say anything,” Sainz said after learning of the sanction. The Spanish driver was angry because the stewards did not speak to him before making the decision.
Alonso, who finished third for the third straight race, called Sainz’s penalty cruel.
