Mestalla was furious after Del Cerro Grande failed to signal two penalties in Valencia’s favor in the second half against Sevilla after their actions were reviewed by the VAR monitor.
Fernando’s first play in a clear hand in the Sevilla area on Castillejo’s shot was especially controversial. In the first instance, the Madrid referee did not see an infringement but was notified from the Vor Room to see the action repeated. While I was checking the hand, the replay was offered by the Mestalla video scoreboard.
When the entire stadium assumed that a penalty would be awarded, the referee ruled that the handball would not be penalized. In the replay it can be seen that the ball slightly bounced off the Sevilla midfielder before landing in his hand.
A few minutes later, Marcao knocked Lino down and Del Cerro didn’t hesitate to point out the fatal point. However, he was warned by VAR and after reviewing the action he reversed his decision
