the portuguese Carlos Carvalhal, coach of Celta Vigo advised this Monday, after his team’s defeat against Mallorca (0-1 =), that the fourth referee used a stopwatch to know how much time had been lost in the game.
“The example of the World Cup was not followed by most of the leagues. In the World Cup there were discounts of 10, 12 or 15 minutes and that does not happen now. We did not take this opportunity to fight the loss of time”, he stated and a press conference.
To avoid that, he asked the fourth official to use a stopwatch: “Not like he does in handball, but to know how much time is left when the game is stopped due to injury or substitution. I am in favor of the fourth official, and not VAR, using the stopwatch”.
He acknowledged that it was difficult for his team to create dangerous chances for Mallorca because they defended “with very low blocks”, and regretted that in the second half they played “more with their hearts than their heads “.
“We had a great chance to score with that shot by Tapia, we had the possession, but that data is useless. We have nine games ahead of us to continue adding, we will try to do it next Saturday at the Santiago Bernabéu”, he commented.
