The American Ryder captain does not close the door on the wayward LIV

Date:

The American players who abandoned the PGA Tour (American circuit) to enroll in arab super league (LIV Golf) can be entered into the US team of Ryder Cupto be played at the end of September at Romeas announced at TPC Louisiana (New Orleans) the captain Zach Johnson.

“No decision has been made on the matter,” Johnson said early on Zurich Classic in pairs. “There is still a long time in that regard, and there are many factors to consider so if I had made a decision personally, I would tell you not yet,” added the Masters and British Open champion.

Among the American players competing in LIV Golf are six of them all won from the ‘majors’: Dustin Johnson (2), Brooks Koepka (4), Bryson DeChambeau (1), Patrick Reed (1), Bubba Watson (2) and Phil Mickelson (6).

The Ryder Cup will be held from September 25 to October 1 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome. The US team will consist of six players who qualify through a point system and six players selected by the team captain.

The American players currently occupying the top six spots in the points standings are, in this order, Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa, Cameron Young, Jordan Spieth, Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay.

As for picking the rest of the US team, Johnson said: “I’m going to put a lot of faith in the people who actually make the team, because it’s their team. So I don’t know who those six are. It’s going to be, obviously, but their participation and their opinions will weigh heavily on what I, what we, decide to do.”

Johnson therefore left open the possibility that Super League players could be part of the American team that will defend the Cup in Rome. “Those individuals who have left the PGA Tour, to the best of my knowledge, are still members of the PGA of America,” Johnson concluded.
