In the affair around the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, US President Donald Trump is increasingly under pressure from political competition, but from his own ranks. Mike Johnson, chairman of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, called for the complete disclosure of the Epstein files, which were classified as a secret.
In an interview with the conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, Johnson said: “We have to put everything on the table and let people decide.”
In this context, Johnson also criticized Minister of Justice Pam Bondi, a well -known Trump, and asked her to explain statements in her earlier statements about the Epstein affair.
Trump signals the willingness to transparency
Trump himself was fundamentally open on Tuesday for the further publication of information about the Epstein complex. If there is credible information, they should be made public, the president told journalists. However, the decision lies with Minister of Justice Bondi. This in turn referred to an already published memorandum and was not expressed at a press conference about possible new revelations: “Our memorandum speaks for itself.”
In the memo that was released at the beginning of July, Bondi and FBI boss Kash Patel said that there was no reliable “customer list” of Epstein-One, it was repeatedly suspected in conservative circles. Bondi and Patel also confirmed that Epstein committed suicide in 2019 when he waited for his trial in a prison in Manhattan. There was no new information, said it at the time.
Disappointment in the Maga camp
This statement caused indignation for many Trump supporters. In the election campaign, the Trump team had already promised to fully clarify the Epstein case. Some supporters then again spread the claim that Epstein had fallen victim to a conspiracy through the “deep state” on social networks. The publication of the memos – and the findings expressed there – considered it a break.
Trump was mentioned several times in the past due to Epstein. In an interview from 2002 he described Epstein as “great species”, who “love beautiful women as much as me”. Many of them were “rather young,” Trump said at the time. He later distanced himself from Epstein. Trump’s name appears in the published judicial documents, but he is not accused of misconduct.
The criticism of the inner party on Trump is increasing
In Trump’s online network truth social, dissatisfaction has recently increased considerably. During the weekend, the president responded with an appeal to his supporters: “We are in a team, Maga, and I don’t like what is happening,” he wrote. In contrast to usual, he mainly received critical comments for this statement – also from his own followers.
