The 19th edition of the Maroc Challenge respond to expectations generated by more than 150 participating teams and the test, hard, difficult and very demanding from the first kilometer, became an adventure. The route, which is largely unprecedented, repeatedly changes the conditions so that participants can fully enjoy driving through the diverse Moroccan desert.
In addition to facing the difficulties of Spring 2023, they had to fight the elements, the fatigue accumulated in six long stages, an itinerary as varied as strict and, finally, the different weather conditions . The challenge is over.
The hardness and length of the stages were already glimpsed on the first day, which was far from being just an appetizer, with 295 kilometers to Matarka. The combination of fast tracks with rocky terrain and sand is bright and a true reflection of what is to come. One of the most outstanding notes of the first day is that the start took place on the beach of Ras el Ma and the participants covered the first section of 5 kilometers in the wet sand of the water that sometimes rises.
A VERY DEMANDING ROUTE
The usual camp is located at this time matarka, it was moved to the end of the first episode. Located in the middle of Rekkam Plateau, participants enjoyed an evening of great camaraderie. It’s on Erfoud and its surroundings where the sand dance began for all categories, crossing the sands of Hey Chebbi in an itinerary adapted to each of them. it came to Zagora after the brutal speed. In the fourth stage, without time to rest, a loop is played to enjoy the magnitude of erg chegaga and the majesty of iriki lake.
Back to Erfoud neither the speed nor the difficulties decreased, fatigue accumulated in the machines and the participants. Everything remained open and the tension rose as the kilometers ticked by and the finish line loomed.
The final stage was held on Friday, April 7, with a 60 km connecting journey Erfoud with Merzouga. The novelty in this last sector is the change of the usual follow-up track for the waypoints that need to be stepped on in order not to be penalized and where the participants have also shown good skill.
He Hey Chebbi, perhaps the most famous point of the Moroccan desert, is the point chosen to end the rally. There, next to the dunes, the distribution of prizes was carried out and thus concluded a brilliant, spectacular edition that kept the participants in suspense from start to finish.
Finally, it should be noted that the winners in ten different categories are the teams Fabelan Motorsport (Raid), HDJ-Vision (Adventure TT3), Racingfest 3 (Adventure TT2), Team Albero (Adventure TT1), Vespasiko Team (Adventure SUV), Manolito (Adventure Rookie), Millillos Competición & Aventura (Adventure C4), Brotom (Adventure C3), Frosker (Adventure C2) and Stunning (Adventure C1).
