Wyndham Clark and Beau Hossler combined for 11 birdies while Sean O’Hair and Brandon Matthews had nine birdies and an eagle between the two to share the lead after the first round of the Zurich Classic in New Orleans on Thursday.
The two American pairs shot 11-under 61 on the opening day of the four-ball team tournament, the only one of its kind on the PGA Tour. The second round on Friday is played in a foursome format.
Five couples are one shot away from the top two, including that formed by Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick, winner of the 2022 US Open and on Sunday at Hilton Head, and his younger brother Alex.
Other teams with -10 are South Korean Im Sung-jae and American Keith Mitchell, American David Lipsky and English Aaron Rai, Swede Henrik Norlander and American Luke List, and the South Korean No Seung-yul and American Michael Kim.
