Pepe is still going strong and will play until he is 41 years old

The Portuguese international Kepler Laveran ‘Pepe’, center of Porto40 years old has renewed his contract until June 2024reported the Do Dragao club this Sunday in a statement.

Born in Maceió (Brazil), he arrived in Porto in 2004 from the Marítimo and from the ‘dragoes’ signed in 2007 for real Madridwhere he spent ten years and where he won three leagues, two Copas del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups, three Champions Leagues, two European Super Cups and two Club World Cups.

In July 2017 he joined the Besiktas and in January 2019 he returned to Porto, who now extend his contract for another season.

International on 133 occasions, with the ‘dragos’ he won all the Portuguese titles, including four leagues, and habitually set his coach’s plans.

Pepe’s renewal was staged this Sunday at the Do Dragao stadium. Club president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa assured that the renewal is due to Pepe’s performance and this may not be the last time he renews.

Pepe admitted that he was “nervous” and that this contract was “a lot” for him.

“Many may doubt my ability, despite being 40 years old, but as a player and as a person, I usually say that I am honest, I owe Porto a lot and I don’t want to disappoint the president, the people of the club, my coach and my teammates. I want to thank everyone at the club for making me better every day as a player, as a person and even as a father,” he said.

“I have won some titles for this club, all of them are special because it is a club and a city that I love and I hope that I can contribute my work this year so that we can win more titles and, God willing , next year I will be able to continue this winning streak that we are experiencing”, added the veteran central defender.
