The choice of Brazil was awarded for the thirteenth time the South American U-17 Championship by winning Argentina by 3-2, and thanks to the tie with a goal in between Ecuador and Venezuelawhich left the Ecuadorian team on the verge of winning the title for the first time.
La Canarinha finished the last hexagonal in first position with 13 points and will go to the next U-17 World Cup with the teams of Ecuador, Argentina and Venezuela, which finished in second, third and fourth position, respectively, while Paraguay and Chile stayed out of the World Cup in fifth and sixth place.
On the fifth and final day of the hexagonal, the Brazilian team defeated Argentina in a spirited two-way match in which both teams played openly. Argentina went into the game cold and Brazil used that to score two goals before half time in the game, through Riquelme and ‘Dudu’.
Shortly before halftime, Argentina closed the gap with a goal from Juan Giménez and at the start of the second half Claudio ‘Diablito’ Echeverri was able to equalize the moment, as a few minutes later Da Mata headed in third goal for Brazil that gave the three points to Canarinha and, ultimately, the title as well.
