The 23-year-old German thus achieved his first victory since Februarywhen he reached the round of 16 in Linz (Austria), because he lost consecutively in the first round in Mérida and Monterrey (Mexico), Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston (United States) and last week in Stuttgart (Germany).
In Madrid he starts on a better footing and will be able to prepare with more confidence their next clash against one of the favourites, the Czech Petra Kvitovatenth seed
The Madrid tournament, in the ATP and WTA 1,000 categories, began this Monday at the Caja Mágica with the first matches of the women’s team. Seeded heads are not yet in action.
